Stopped in Chicago on a roadtrip looking for some quality espresso and stumbled upon this gem! Proprietor was very hospitable and the place felt like it was out of a wendell berry novel. The lattes we ordered were excellent!

What a great experience! Funky Java is the place where locals gather, drink coffee, and get to know the community of Villa Park! The owner, Larry is a welcoming presence and the warm friendly surrounding make Funky Java a great place to engage life and meet your neighbors. From local art to local talk! Don't miss this eclectic and super friendly hometown coffee joint. My wife and I had celebrity status because we were from Fishers, IN the #1 Best City and Villa Park is #8 - that was enough to have us sign the famous Funky Java mannequin! What a trip!

I'm here at 6:55am, ready for my coffee and this place isn't open even though they say they open at 6:00. Waste of my time.

I wanted to like this place since it is a local place, but it isn't that great. Walking in they had a cute sign outside, however when you enter the Coffee house it is quite dark inside. There were some regulars inside reading and drinking some coffee. There are board games that you can play with friends and there is art you can view along the wall which is pretty neat.
The girl working behind the counter was very nice, and gave me suggestions as I looked at the menu. I ended up getting a hot chocolate as well as a Funkaccino with chocolate.
The hot chocolate tasted as if it just came from your standard Swiss Miss packaging unfortunately. The Funkaccino was an ice blend with chocolate syrup and left an odd after taste when I take a break from drinking the iced beverage. I ended up throwing it out because the after taste was just not doing it for me.
